London, England – The UK has one of the most competitive fitness environments in the world, according to a new report.
The World Fitness Ranking, compiled by consultancy The Training Group, said the UK has the fifth-most competitive UK gym environments in terms of quality, attendance and quality of facilities.
Its latest findings, released on Wednesday, found the UK ranks eighth in the World Fitness Rankings and fourth in terms the number of top-level athletes competing for the top prize.
The UK is also ranked first in terms overall number of competitive teams competing for an international title, according the report, which covers international competitions.
“The UK has an incredibly competitive environment with many top-tier athletes competing in national competitions and in the top ranks of international competitions such as the London Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Paralympics, Eurovision, Commonwealth World Cup, and World Youth Championships,” said Paul Johnson, head of sports and fitness at The Training Company.
“We have seen some of the world’s top-performing teams in this country competing at some of its biggest events including the World Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Championships, World Rugby World Cup and Commonwealth Games.”
This is a country with a wealth of top class athletes, with many talented and dedicated coaches, and with top-class facilities.
“The UK sports minister, Simon Burns, said: “The UK excels at producing top-quality, international athletes, who are world class and highly competitive.
“The recent UK record in Olympic and Commonwealth athletics has given us a lot to be proud of.”
The ranking also revealed the UK’s top 10 sporting venues, which include venues in London, Bristol, Manchester and Newcastle.
Among the UK sports venues that have topped the rankings in recent years are:London Olympic Park, which has won four gold medals at the Games, including the gold medal for women’s 10-metre dash in 2015;
