But with more than 500,000 registered cyclists in the country, and more than $3 billion invested in cycle-friendly infrastructure, there are some things cyclists can do to keep their legs fresh.
Here are some tips to keep your legs and your feet healthy.
Cycling’s long history is largely a health-focused one.
In the 1500s, horse-drawn chariots became the norm, and the first recorded use of horses was by King Arthur.
In modern times, the term “dirt bike” was coined by the late Peter Drucker in the 1920s.
In terms of fitness, the word “dance” is a bit misleading as it comes from the Latin word “dispense”, which means to dance or to move.
But for the past few decades, there has been a shift towards the use of a stationary bicycle for people who need a bit more mobility on the move.
There are now more than two million active-cycling bikes in Australia, and they’re often made by the same manufacturers as those used by horse-and-buggy riders.
And while it might seem like a waste of time to put a wheel on your bike, there’s no denying that the benefits of riding on a bicycle are well worth the extra time and effort it takes.
For starters, you can get more out of your daily commute by pedalling on to the same road twice a day.
But you’ll also get to feel the impact of the roads on your body in an active way.
In addition to providing a good workout, you’ll get plenty of exercise, too.
If you’re like many people, you’re probably also a bit overweight.
It’s estimated that more than 40 per cent of Australians are overweight or obese, and many people are reluctant to change their lifestyle to reduce their health risks.
The best way to get fit is to walk.
Cycling is a great way to burn calories and reduce your risk of illness, says Fiona O’Connor, the director of the Australian Centre for Health and Sport at the University of Melbourne.
