In a day of heavy speculation, the biggest names among women’s elite gymnastics have finally signed on to the fitness platform FitPal.
The company is planning to roll out fitness software to its members, but the news comes as a surprise to some.
The company was founded by American Olympic champion Sara McMurray and Canadian Olympian Jessica Eriksen, both of whom will take part in the upcoming World Cup of Fitness.
But while the pair is reportedly very excited to be a part of the platform, the announcement came as a disappointment to some athletes who were looking forward to signing up.
“I’m disappointed because we’ve had a lot of good people come on board with us and we’re excited to get going and bring the sport to the masses,” Eriksens said.
The announcement was made to The Hill, but not without some hesitation.
The Hill asked McMurra and Eriksensen to comment for the publication, but they declined to do so.
The Hill also contacted the members of the US Olympic team, and they did not respond to our request for comment.
McMurray and Ericksen have been vocal advocates for female athletes and athletes of color, and have been outspoken on the subject of diversity in sports, specifically in the sports of gymnastics.
In recent years, McMurrays’ Olympic team has been one of the most visible in the world, and has helped build the movement around women’s participation in gymnastics as well as other sports.
